Into the swing of things... almost

cupcakes ^^

what i'm wearing: skirt from market, shoes vintage, bag vintage, jacket topshop sale

Although I love the crisp wrath of Autumns breeze sweeping away the sweat of summer this time of year always seems (for me) a difficult transitional period, where the new winter warmers are just to warm for the insistently sticky summer and the summer casuals just don't keep you warm enough. And if that wern't enough to contend with its the start of school again, which for me means alot of money on materials, buses, food and, oh, say £100, which we just happen to have to pay up front for the curtosy of using college materials. Bummer!

So I struggle, wanting to break free of my summer wardrobe (which was mainly party style dresses seen on 5 yr olds ready for their first big party with friends with cute shoes and bright pulled up socks) and delve into the new of autumn (the 90's revival, tartan, biker boots, lace, patterend tights and feathers ala the beautiful sallyjane), but without sufficient funds I lag behind in the fashion stakes, though eager to impress my new class mates with pretty outfits.

So when me and my boyfriend took a stroll up mansfield road I kept a look out for anything that fitted in for what i want in autumn. I managed to pick up a tartan skirt, a new brown/beige bag and cute blue purse as well as some super cute dinosaur earyings i just couldn't resist!

Currently on my radar are a pair of biker boots and a lace tiered dress, both at select where i work which i'll hopefully buy saturday and i also plan a trip back into Notts to buy the most beautiful pair of glasses possibly ever which i stupidly put back because of the price.

We finished of our shopping day at the cutest, quaintest little vegetarian tea shop, with vintage cloth, delicate vintage china tea cups and the loveliest homemade cupcakes possibly ever.

Bombay Bicycle Club

My attention span is somewhat undesirable, and I have currently changed my name 3 times, having had this blog less than a month. Hopefully todays changes will stick.

bombay bicycle club were, simply, brilliant. Though I was quite horrified to discover that they are my age, which made me feel rather inadequate.

The night was followed by many drinks, a tea pot of shots, and some rather unfortunate dancing.

I wore my sally jane vintage dress, and a girl with a camera taking pictures of nicely dressed people asked me to pose, and although she caught me somewhere between awkward and forced smile the honour made me very happy.

Me and my boyfriend plan to hit some pre-undiscovered vintage stores and stop in at a lovely vegetarian cafe, so I'm sure I'll have some pictures soon.

"You have a much better life if you wear impressive clothes"

I may not completely agree with VivienneWestwood on that, but it certainly makes life rosier when you have lovely clothes. I had a very exciting day today so I may talk alot. Oh, and Tadah! my new hair is for all to see in these new pics. Enjoys ^^

Today me and my boyfriend went on an adevnture. We went to Sheffield. Those in England that know how close Nottingham is to Sheffield may scoff, but since I very rarely use trains it was something of an experience. It was such a fun day out! We went to the millennium gallery to see the Vivienne Westwood exhibition and Oh! it was magical! My boyfriend wasn't quite as impressived, we also had a little look around the Get Knitted exhibition, not as impressive but still pretty.

It wasn't the most successful of days however. We were under the impression that the train came hourly. But it didn't. It came every other hour. However, firm believer that I am -Everything happens for a reason. After being a little grouchy (ok, more than a little) we decided to head out to look for food, 'cause, you see, we were waiting on a platform. No station, no nothing. So as we ventured out a spotted a little charity shop tucked in with a few food stores and a hair dressers and had a nosy inside. It was just beautiful. An Aladins cave of wonder. Now I can usually be found rummageing through the rails of clothes, but one look told me that this wouldn't be very fruitful. Instead I was helplessly lured to the beautiful antiques, lulling my will as sweets do a child. My mouth watering at the goodies. Beautiful hat boxes, ornate clocks, delicate china sets, type writers and an exqisite dressing table set made of silver, including hand mirror, brush and comb. I flit from one side to another, my fasination making me delve through the shelves. Since this was before we had even set of for Sheffield I decided agaisnt the dressing table set as I didn't want anything to break (though I plan to go back and claim them), I purchased a hat box, a doll, a film camera and the most beautiful turquise typewriter that was just calling out my name and that my boyfriend was not very happy having to carry around all day (btw- it was heavy, very heavy).

Badge from Vivienne Westwood show
Assorted thrift finds.

I'm really lookin forward to using the little film camera, but I think it's time for me to part ways with my trusty SLR. I bought him two years ago as a I began college, but now I've finished college I just have no need for such top quality camera. How can you not need a top quality camera you ask? Well, I now don't need to use all the fancy nozzles and options this nifty guy has to offer, and I'm constantly terrified whenever I take him out incase he's damaged in some way. I think it is now time to pass him on to a good home of an aspiring photographer. Yep, I think it's time for ebay. Now I've never sold anything on ebay, my boyfriend has sold a few cards, but that doesn't really compare to something like this. If anyone has anywords of advice it would be much appreciated.

Tomorrow I am seeing bombay bicycle club, which is very exciting as they hold a special place in mine and my boyfriends hearts. Hopefully I will take lots of pictures, but hopefully not write as much as I have today. But now I need my sleep.

The Notebook

I just love The Notebook, and not only for the fashion. The entire film is just beautiful, the story, the scenery, the clothes, ahh, if only I were Alli.

While I remember I just wanted to explain the links on my blog. The links are to other blogs that I have enjoyed myself (obviously), however I have not commented on many of the blogs as I have either been drawn into the witty writing and completely forgotten, or I added the link while I was in a rush and unable to properly read the blog (putting a link on my page makes it easier for me to find them again). As well as this, there are many blogs I have enjoyed but somehow lost, due in large part to my frivilous and ever wondering mind. In the next few days I hope to get this in order, I plan to comment on blogs I like, letting them know I appreciate their pictures and stories and also hope to add more links to my blogs. If you would like me to link you then please let me know here and I will most certainly enjoy hoping over to your blog and adding you to my links. Thanks ^^

Going for the Chop

I've had my fair share of hairstyles. People joke about not knowing what I'm going to do next, and when my boyfriend was asked about my recent drastic cut and whether it was a shock he replied simply "You expect it going out with Charlotte" (p.s. that's my actual name). I've not got around to putting any pictures on the computer recently because I've been lazy, so instead I dug out some old hair cuts to give you some examples. Now bare in mind that this is only a small fraction of my ever changing hair does', as I couldn't actually fit enough photo's on. So, prepare yourself for some cringe worthy myspace posing...

The first picture was probably my first change in colour as I had always been blonde, I then dyed my hair blue/black and started a phenomon at school as nearly ever girl began turning up with black hair. Once I left school I shed the long black locks for a super short blonde do (ala Anna from The OC). After various changes and built confidence as I started cutting my own hair I went for the "nu rave" concuction of pink and blue. After a year or so of cutting my own hair things went terribly wrong... and long story short- I had to shave half my head. Luckily new wave was in and I was herald (for lack of better word) "cool". Though my boyfriend was less than impressed. The bottom picture shows the shaven side begining to grow out. Since then I've pretty much been bleaching my hair and letting it grow and you can see those results in my previous blogs.
So after quite sometime of avoiding hairdressers I realised I needed their help. I wanted a perm. Except, turns out, if you bleach your hair you really CAN NOT perm it. Bugger. So I booked myself in for a weeks time and figured that would give me some time to think up a new style. However, that all went to pot when the hairdresser cut my hair way to short and so I've ended up with a pixie cut. A brunette pixie cut. I'm getting used to it, though I am finding myself particularly jealous of ANYONE with long hair. Though I'm sure I'll survive.
Anyway, it was probably luck that made my hair too short, as the hair I had in mind was something like the new agynes deyn look (this being before I saw it) and so now I dont have to put up with the stigma of having a "celeb do'".
I'll hopefully have pictures up very soon and very much hope that people like my new hair. I also hope all this self indulgent hair talk hasn't bored anyone.
love Poppy, x
